So, What Do You, Like, Do?

I don’t often have a hard time writing. It’s actually something that comes quite naturally to me, unlike math. (I remind my math-brained brothers that I do words, not numbers.) This isn’t news to you. Obviously, if I didn’t have some affinity toward writing, I wouldn’t have a blog.

But today, the words aren’t coming like they usually do. And it’s not so much the words as it is the ideas. And it’s not so much that I don’t have any ideas—believe me, I do. That’s actually the problem. I have so many ideas flying in my head, it’s hard getting one to land. Writer’s block? Maybe more like Writer’s WHERE-DO-I-START?

But I’m writing anyway. Know why? Because the best (and perhaps only) cure to writer’s block is to write. So here I am. Sorry you have to read this. (I’m only 137 words in. You can leave anytime and I won’t ever know the difference!)

 What I’m Actually Doing

Maybe you’re wondering what I’m doing when I’m not writing for emilygehman.com.  Maybe you’re not wondering—that’s okay. I’m not making you care about my life. But I haven’t been writing for emilygehman.com (that still feels weird to type and say) so I must be doing something, right? Right.

[I get the what-are-you-up-to-these-days question a LOT. I’m sure there are a number of factors, ranging from the fact that I’m going to school and living at home to the fact that I’m out of college and not married. (Gasp! A single female Bible college graduate? Yes, friends, I went to Baptist Bible College, not Baptist Bridal College, though many friends did find wonderful husbands there, and I’m happy for them.)]

Well, I’m glad you asked! I’m actually really excited that God has provided some awesome things recently! I’ve been working with Shattered Magazine as an online editor. Shattered is based in Hunstville, Alabama, which is, of course, nowhere near Michigan. But that’s the beauty of the Internet! Shattered’s niche is story-telling—showing how God takes the shattered pieces of our lives and makes them beautiful. He’s pretty good at that, and we want to let people know about it. Shattered publishes a print magazine four times a year (the winter issue just came out!) as well as multiple blog posts a week. I think you’ll like it. (I even wrote a post a few weeks ago!)

I’ve also been working on a number of other projects, including work for Baptist Bible College and other clients on ghostwriting, editing, and copyediting. I even got to fly to Charlotte, NC to speak at the Queen City Writer’s Conference last month. That was a ton of fun!

God is so good. Much of the time I’m not exactly sure what He’s doing, but He always proves that He is faithful and so very good. That is what I write about when I don’t know what to write.
